Greetings from the side of the country that is not facing a polar vortex and blizzard! This week temperatures in Tucson are around the high 60s and down to the low 40s, and I am here for it! Stay warm!
December is sailing by, so I thought I would share some updates through photos! This evening, I head out to Bakersfield, California to spend time with Hannah, a friend from college, and her family from the 23rd-28th. I'll be hopping on the Amtrak train for a 16 hours journey, so I'll have plenty to share after the holidays, but for now:
I biked my longest ride of 20 miles around Tucson on Saturday, Dec 10th!

Tucson has incredible bike paths compared to a lot of major cities (lots of tourist come here because of it), so I was able to get downtown, through downtown, along the south side of Tucson, and then back up towards our neighborhood within 2 (close to 3 with a coffee stop) hours. Here are some photos of my view along the way. I even took a coffee stop to celebrate my goal of biking downtown!
I led my first WMG Clean Up Event!
I may have made the mistake of biking 20 miles the same day I was leading my first WMG Clean Up, but I did make it through! We had about 25 participants, and it went very smoothly. It was exciting to see some of the work I've been doing since September prepping for this initiative and it finally playing out. I'm looking forward to my next clean-up on January 14th.
We've had lots of MVS Holiday Shenanigans!
From cookie decorating at the Showalter's, to the MVS Christmas Party (where we also celebrated my birthday as a group), to saying goodbyes to Michaela and Cade who flew to the Midwest for the holidays; it's been a very life-giving and happy time of year. It reminded me how blessed and supported I've been by these groups of people. At the Christmas party, my heart was filled with joy as I saw everyone whose been rooting and thinking of each MVSer months before we even showed up! Although I'm sad to not be in Virginia for this time of year, the Tucsonans and the Shalom community have opened their arms to us and I feel truly supported and cared for. And to everyone else: THANK YOU for supporting me and being such a supportive community from every direction on my journey.
Now, I have my last full day of work before the adventure begins...stay tuned!
